Advocacy Summit - Transcription and Meaningful Use for EHR Adoption

R+B Sten-Tel sent Peter Minio down to Washington DC last week to participate in the AHDI/MTIA 5th Annual Advocacy Summit and speak about issues with Congress on behalf of the sector.  He was joined by members of AHDI and MTIA from around the country.  Peter had a great time in Washington, meeting with many of the healthcare and legislative aids of our Senators and Representatives.  He even received a personal tour of the Capitol by Congressman Glenn Thompson.

The objective was simply to encourage the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONCHIT) to acknowledge in the regulations that the dictation-transcription process is a viable means by which to achieve “meaningful use” and that certified EHR systems should be able to receive structured narrative reports from the dictation-transcription process.  Read the full press release.

MGMA Believes Modifications to Meaningful Use Required

A recent letter from MGMA to CMA states, "we believe it is imperative to remember that the intent of ARRA was to provide a practical and achievable glide path to enable large numbers of physicians and other providers to adopt EHRs." The letter went on to state "we do not believe that the legislation anticipated the onerous nature of the proposed meaningful-use criteria nor the expected high cost and decreased physician productivity associated with participation in this incentive program." - Modern Healthcare
