EHR Products Lack Usability Standards

James Bell Associates and The Altarum Institute developed a report on behalf of the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services which found gaps in how EHR products are developed with respect to usability related to healthcare.

The report found that "current best practices and standards of design, testing, and monitoring EHR product(s), particularly for usability, are varied and not well disseminated."   As a result, EHR products must be adjusted to meet health care-specific needs and usability must be a key component.  Read the full report.
